Weigh In: Week 12
I was out of town last week, so to be down a pound when I returned was a good thing. Until next week...

Weigh In: Week 11
I'm going back to Thursday as my weigh in day. Thursday's worked for me for many years and I switched to Monday simply because that is the day I started the Advocare 24 day challenge. Now that the 24 day challenge is over, I'd like to go back to Thursday's. Plus I FINALLY have a loss to celebrate and I don't want to wait until Monday :)

Goals: Review of May and Set June
I had two goals for May (5/2 - 5/30):
For June (5/31 - 6/27), here are my goals:
- Lose 5 pounds - FAIL (only lost 2 pounds)
- Finish C25K - WIN (I finished and have kept up with running 3-4 times per week)
For June (5/31 - 6/27), here are my goals:
- Lose 5 pounds (I'm determined to meet this goal)
- Journal every single day (my food journal is visible to anyone at this address: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/food/diary/rlnjones)
- Run at least 3 times per week and increase time to 35 minutes (up from 32)
Weigh In: Week 10
I weighed in this morning without any change since last week. I am very discouraged, but I refuse to give up. Does anyone have any encouraging words or tips for me?

Weigh In: Week 9
Well, this is just plain discouraging! I had several things going on this week including traveling for work, my 30th birthday and a couple of birthday celebrations. But through all of that, I thought I did pretty good and stayed on track, but obviously not. I think I may have hit the "weight loss plateau" :(

Weigh In: Week 8
This week I love the scale :) I did some things different this week and I'll explain more in a seperate post, but it has to do with the way I journal my food.
Also, I have been continuing to run and I ended up starting the Bridge to 10K (B210K) program. The first day, Saturday, was pretty hard, but not as hard as my first day of C25K. The second day, this morning, was about as hard as any workout I've had so far.
I did it on an empty stomach and my pace was really fast (didn't realize I was going so fast). I don't know exactly what my pace was, but I can tell you that when I arrived back home, I still had 5 minutes of running left (if I had done my normal pace, I would have arrived back home at exactly the end of the 5 minute cool down - so that is 10 minutes ahead of schedule).

Food Journal: 5/16/2011
I use the Weight Watchers PointsPlus* iphone app as my food journal. I just did screen shots instead of re-typing everything into blogger. The top bar shows how many PointsPlus* I've used for the day, how many Weekly PointsPlus* are remaining, how many Activity PointsPlus* I've earned that day and how many Activity PointsPlus* are left for the week. The bottom part of the screen shows the food I logged and their PointsPlus* values.
Monday was not a great day for me nutritionally, but I logged still everything. I went to the grocery store Monday night, so before that, we didn't have hardly anything fresh to eat.
Above: Breakfast and Lunch |
Above: Dinner and Activity |
My daily checks are shown below. Each row represents items that you are supposed to check off throughout the day. Here is what the list represents (with the daily target listed in parentheses), from the top down: Water (6-8 cups), Milk/Dairy (2 servings), Fruits and Veggies (5 servings), Multi-Vitamin (yes or no), Healthy Oils (2 servings), Activity (yes or no). If I met the Target, it gives me a little smiley face.
I got everything in except for 2 Fruit/Veggie servings and 1 Healthy Oil serving (those are always the hardest for me).
*If you are not familiar with Weight Watchers PointsPlus, here is the basic idea: I get 29 PointsPlus a day and 49 extra PointsPlus that can be used at any time throughout the week. A PointPlus is calculated by the grams of Fat, Carb, Protien and Fiber for each food. If I exercise, I get extra PointsPlus that can be used at any time throughout the week.

C25K - I graduated
Tonight was my final workout of Couch to 5K. Week 9, Day 3!!! It was really easy tonight. I ran 30 minutes straight and covered somewhere between 3.1 miles and 3.4 miles (including the 5 minute warm-up and 5 minute cool down). My GPS tracker acted up a little, so that is why I don't know the exact distance.
I've been thinking about what's next for me. There is a Bridge to 10K plan that I would like to do. I also thought about just adding 2 minutes per week (i.e. 32 min next week, 34 min the week after that, etc). All I know is that I don't want to lose the momentum that I have built up!
A neighbor walked by earlier today when Lance and I were working in the flower beds outside and she said, "WOW, you are looking skinny! Look at your legs!" I can't tell you how good her comments made me feel. Espically since I have been feeling like the scale is stuck for about 5 weeks now. It even helped me to make good choices when we went out to eat for lunch. I had grilled chicken with steamed brocolli instead of chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy :) So if you are reading this Diana - thanks!!!

Weigh In: Week 6
Sorry, I know I am really, really late in posting this weeks results. I was down 1 pound on Monday morning but I was so busy this week that I just wasn't able to find the time to blog about it.
I know I said I was going to publish my food journal and I had every intention of doing so, but it just didn't happen. Hopefully next week will not be as busy and I will be able to do it then. Stay tuned...

Weigh In: Week 5
Well, I clearly didn't meet my 7 pound goal for April :(
It's okay though, I'm focused on May now and my two goals: lose 5 pounds and complete C25K. I'll be posting my food journal each night this week starting tonight. Stay tuned...

Goals
I am going to start setting goals on this blog each month until I reach my ultimate goal.
When I weigh in next Monday, I'm going to count that towards April. Therefore, April will end up being a long month (3/28 - 5/2), and so I think its very reasonable to set my April goal to lose 7 pounds. I've already lost five, so that is two more to go by Monday.
For May (5/2 - 5/30), I have two goals:
Speaking of C25K, I'm doing Week 7, Day 2 this afternoon. I'm finding myself looking forward to running days and excited to see what I can accomplish for each run. When I started C25K, I did it because I thought it would be an effective way to get in shape and lose weight. I never did it because I thought running was fun. But the more I do it and the better I get, I'm starting to find it very enjoyable and fun. It's amazing how much can change is just 7 weeks :)

Weigh In: Week 4
I'm down one pound this morning. Happy :)
I'm thinking about posting my food journal on the blog everyday this week to see 1) if it helps me to make good food choices and 2) if I can get some feedback on what I could do better. What do you think? Would anyone be willing to give me some feedback?

AdvoCare 24 Day Challenge RESULTS
Yesterday (April 21, 2011) marked the end of our AdvoCare 24 day Challenge. Recall that we ran out of MNS product around Day 17, so we didn't really follow the program 100%. I did continue to drink Spark, Meal Replacement Shakes, eat healthy and workout in those last 7 days, so I wasn't completely off program.
So, last night we weighed and did our measurements. Here are the results:
Weight: -5.00 pounds
Right Arm: -0.00 inches
Shoulders: -0.50 inches
Chest: -3.50 inches
Waist: -2.50 inches
Hips: -1.50 inches
Right Thigh: -2.00 inches
Right Calf: -0.25 inches
Total: -10.25 inches and 5 pounds!
I can't be disappointed in those results - at least they are results! My clothes do fit better and I feel better, so I consider that WINNING :)
And what is the moral of the whole story? The first place women lose weight is.....the boobs!!! :(

Post-Workout: C25K 6-2
I finished my run earlier today and to my surprise it wasn't nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. Just as a reminder, here is what today's workout consisted of:
Day 3 will really be a true test - 25 minutes without stopping?!?! Holy smokes thats a long time!
- Brisk 5 minute warmup walk, then:
- Jog 10 minutes
- Walk 3 minutes
- Jog 10 minutes
- Cooldown 5 minute walk

Workout Routine
First, a quick update on the scale. I am down about 1 pound this morning. Today is a hard workout day, and I swear if I weigh in tomorrow morning having gained weight, I may just stop working out all together.
Now on to the real post, I wanted to just give an update on what I've been doing for exercise. I am 6 weeks in to the Couch to 5K program (C25K). The whole program is 9 weeks long, so I can see the end in sight. It consists of running/walking for about 30 minutes, 3 times a week . Here is what week 6 looks consists of:
Week 6, Day 1 (Monday)
In addition to the C25K, I just started doing Power Yoga on DVD this week. I needed to add in some strength training and I thought Power Yoga would be a good start towards that. Eventually, I will want to add in some weights or resistance bands.
I did Power Yoga on Tuesday and I was so sore on Wednesday and I am still sore today.

AdvoCare Weigh In: Week 3
I am SOOOOO frustrated! I have been watching what I eat and working out and here I am up TWO WHOLE POUNDS!
Lance and I stopped taking our Advocare MNS on Thursday simply because we ran out of product. I'll explain in a minute why we didn't order any more. But, we've still been taking Spark, Meal Replacement Shakes and Catalyst. My weight was already up before Thursday, so I don't think not taking the MNS has anything to do with the weight gain.
I still think it is directly related to working out. After each workout last week, I was up about 1 pound on the scale. These were pretty hard workouts! My clothes fit better and I feel better, but the stupid scale hates me....or I hate it....or its a mutual hate!
I'm trying not to be discouraged and am just going to "keep on going on". Hopefully the scale will start going in the other direction soon.
Now, regarding the MNS product. On Thursday, we realized that we were out of MNS and didn't have any more in stock. We could have easily ordered more and it would have gotten here by Friday, but this is a special month for us. Why? Because at the end of the month, we are writing our very last check for my Student Loan and then we will be DEBT FREE! We will still have our mortgage, but we don't consider that debt - even though I know it technicallly is. We follow Dave Ramsey and he doesn't consider it debt - so neither do we :)
Anyway, in order to write that last check (its bigger than our normal debt snowball), we have to live very modestly this month and save all non-discretionary spending. The only non-necessity we have spent money on this month is Easter outfits for the kids. So, at the end of the day, becoming debt-free was more important to us than getting more Advocare MNS product. We'll get back on it next month.

AdvoCare Weigh In: Week 2
Well, I am neutral this week. I am still happy, that is still 6 pounds in 2 weeks! I started back up running on Friday (after a 3 week break) and I know there isn't a really good explanation for this but EVERY time I start working out, I gain about 1 or 2 pounds and it takes me about a week and a half to get it back off. Anyway, my point is that before Friday, I was down a little bit from last week. But after my workout and the next day saw the scale - I knew exactly what had happened.
I know everyone says "muscle weighs more than fat". Okay, but do I really gain that much muscle in one workout? I don't know the answer, but it is really frustrating! Oh well, 6 pounds in 2 weeks - that is what I keep reminding myself.

AdvoCare 24 Day Challenge: Day 11
Just checking in this morning. I unofficially stepped on the scale this morning and I am down 0.5 pounds from last monday (which would be 6.5 pounds total). That is about what I expected. I knew that I wouldn't keep up the 6 lb/week pace, but I was just hoping that I didn't gain any of those 6 pounds back, so I am happy. Hopefully I'll end up with a 1or 2 pound loss this week.
Yesterday was the last day of the Cleanse. I am so happy with the results of the Cleanse. I feel SO GOOD!!! I have much more energy, I feel lighter and look better. Before I took the Cleanse I was tired all of the time. I was just run down and felt blah. I would have to drag myself out of bed every morning and I dredded the work that lay ahead of me almost every day.
Now I wake up feeling refreshed and excited about the day. I still get sleepy at night, but I don't have that overwhelming sense of being tired all day long. All in all, I'd say the Cleanse phase was a definite WIN!
Today starts the Max phase and I am super pumped about this phase. I'll keep updating on this blog but that is about it for today.

AdvoCare Weigh In: Week 1
Exactly one week ago today I started the AdvoCare 24 day challenge. I got on the scale this morning and was down 6 POUNDS! Out of all the years I've been dieting, that is the most I've ever lost in one week - yay! Now I just have to keep going strong for the rest of the 24 days.
Today began Day 8 and we only have 3 more days of the cleanse left and then we get to start on the MNS phase. For those who aren't familiar with the program, the cleanse phase has a purpose, but it is actually isn't to lose weight. The purpose of the cleanse is to rid the body of all toxins which allows your body to better absorb all the great nutrition and supplements that come in the next phase, the MNS phase.
So, the MNS phase is really where the weight loss picks up. I'm excited that I've been able to lose 6 pounds in the non-weight loss phase and I'm even more excited to see what happens next :)

24 Day Challenge Challenge: Day 4
This morning I was actually down 3.5 pounds since Monday (the start of my 24 day challenge). I'm not recording that as officail yet - I'll do that on Monday, but its a good measure for now.
Taking the products has been pretty easy. Being 100% perfect on the eating plan has been less easy, but I've still been about 85% on. I'll check back in on Monday.

AdvoCare 24 Day Challenge
I'm BAACCKKK!
I know it's been a long time since I've blogged on here, but I haven't given up on my goals. My family and I have been so sick this winter and we are still suffering. We have had everything from the flu to stomach bugs to staph infections! I guess I'm just trying to say that it's just hard to keep up with something new when you are constantly having to deal with curve balls being thrown at you.
Anyway, Lance and I started an AdvoCare business last Fall. If you have never heard of AdvoCare, check out our website or better yet, ask one of us about it. In a nutshell, AdvoCare offers the highest quality nutritional supplements on the market. One of the most popular bundles is called the "24 day challenge". It starts with a 10 day cleanse, followed by a 14 day regimen of Metabolic Nutritional System. People who take the 24 day challenge feel better, lose weight (anywhere between 5 and 18 pounds), have more energy and look better. It's a great way to jump start a sucessful weight loss program.
So, the two of us started our very own 24 day challenge on Monday this week. I caught my son's Upper Respiratory Infection on Tuesday, so it has been difficult to stay on track, but I feel like I've been doing pretty good nonetheless. I'll keep posting our progress on our 24 day challenge here.

AdvoCare 24 Day Challenge: Start Weight
Lance and I started the AdvoCare 24 day challenge on March 28, 2011. My starting weight was 2.0 pounds higher than my last official Weight Watchers weigh in.
Thursday, February 24, 2011
Last official WW weigh in
My last official weigh in with Weight Watchers was on February 24, 2011 and it was down 1.4 pounds since the last time I logged on here. That puts me at a total of 25 pounds lost since beginning Weight Watchers. I still haven't met my goal, but I decided to drop out of Weight Watchers since I was paying $40/month and actually made it to weigh in once every month or so. I was just wasting money. Hopefully I can get back to my goal weight and start weighing in at Weight Watchers for free again (I am a lifetime member, but am just above my goal weight).
